What To Expect

It probably isn't what you are imagining

People joke about therapy involving a client laying on a couch and venting about all their problems while a therapist quietly takes notes. This may be true of some, but that isn’t me. I am extremely active and energetic in session all while fostering a laid back and comfortable environment. I am not the type who will sit in a chair and give you advice starting with “If I was you…”. I have been known to throw a pen or two at clients {gently}.

Sessions in a Nut Shell

Imagine untangling a necklace. Look over the knots you can see, determine which is the best pull to first, if pulling one knot makes another knot tighter, move on to another knot for now until it makes sense to come back. You get my drift.

Often these knots include what you know about yourself, how others might describe you, how you take care of yourself, what you want more and less of in your day to day, and what things you have tried or might try to get that.

Approach

Every client is different, so I utilize a variety of different approaches to meet my client where they are.

Having mind-body connection is a huge part of feeling like you, but so often we have learned how to ignore what our mind-body is telling us. You may not be at a point where you are ready to listen, and that is okay. Eventually, I will introduce the scientific stuff (like gut health, nervous system response, somatic body work, etc.). If you just zoned out reading that, you may not be ready for all that jelly yet, and that is totally fine!

My most pulled from therapy approaches are rooted in Cognitive Behavioral, Adlerian, Positive, Person-Centered, as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Investment

One of the main reasons people say they don’t seek therapy is because of money. While therapy is a financial investment, it is also an investment in the future for a better quality of life. When thinking about a lifetime, it is ultimately a short-term investment, for a long-term pay off.

Insurance

Health Savings and Flexible Spending accounts are accepted. While I do not file insurance, I am happy to provide a superbill for out-of-network claims. Check with your insurance company about reimbursement for out-of-network claims. Depending on your benefits, you can receive full or partial reimbursement, as well as apply costs toward your deductible. I also suggest talking with your CPA about deducting therapy expenses from your taxes as an out-of-pocket expense.
